Introduction to this project
Portraits of the Pit is a photographic love letter to the people who breathe life into the heavy music scene. Here you’ll find the full spectrum of metal humanity: the battle-jacket veterans who’ve survived more mosh pits than most people have hot dinners, the black-metal warriors in corpse paint that somehow hasn’t melted under stage lights, the hardcore kids two-stepping like their life depends on it, and the fresh-faced newbies. This project is my attempt to capture them all, and show that under the scowls and sweat, metalheads are some of the warmest, weirdest, and most photogenic people on earth. I’ll be sharing their stories and photos here, one face at a time. If you’re interested in being part of it, come and find me at a show.
